Bookmaking

I absolutely LOVE digital photography, but the only thing that I miss from film, is the hands on, not staring at a computer, part of photography.

So I picked up a hobby over the past few weeks - Bookmaking.

Here's my first book. I loved making it, but even more than that I love the idea that I created the entire project from shooting the images, printing them on my Epson 3800 (the best B-Day present EVER from my wife), trimming, binding, covering, building the box, everything. Just awesome. Now I just need to get REALLY good at it.

Here's the first go. I made a box for the book as well.

I am not offering these to wedding clients, I am only making them as a hobby right now.

Let me know what you think.

The box.

The book in the box.

The binding.

The book upright.

The pages fanned.

Winter E-Session - Nate and Nicole

Nate and Nicole were real troopers for their engagement session. We have had very little snow in the North Woods until just a couple of weeks ago. Then we got over a foot in about a week. Nicole and Nate's e-session was the next day.

First we had a little fun down by the old Mis-i-sip. Nicole and Nate wanted to take their jackets off, I told them they were crazy, but they took them off anyways.

I talked them into keeping their jackets on for the rest of the shoot.

Nicole has beautiful red hair.....

...and a great smile when Nate's holding on tight to keep them both warm.

We should have all been wearing pack boots and snow mobile suits, but you can't shoot an engagement session in that, unless you love snow mobiles. I think Nicole's feet started to get a little cold.

So, we headed into my studio, which is in the Franklin Art Center in Brainerd, MN, and wandered the halls for a few more images.

Thanks Nicole and Nate, it was great to see you guys.

Click here and turn up your volume to watch their engagement slide show.

What's coming up? Look for an online gallery of my new line of albums from Vision Art.

Spring 2007 | Newsletter

Today we sent our first newsletter.

Well, I guess it is a little more than a newletter. It is actually a 16 page mini-magazine that highlights what's new at our studio, some recent weddings, a few other wedding vendors and what to expect in the future from us.

If you haven't received your copy yet and would like one, please email me and I'll get it in the mail.

Also, we just received our first Vision Art Book album and it is AWESOME! One of my upcoming posts will be about this cool new fine art album.

Do not covet your ideas.

This is a quote from a book by Paul Arden:

"It's Not How Good You Are, It's How Good You Want to Be."

I am a big fan of the book after my wife gave it to me for Valentine's Day. The layout is great for provoking thought, each page is basically a chapter, very concise yet informative and each page contains an idea that can be thought about for a day or a week.

This page talks about how a truly creative person should never covet their ideas because doing so causes the person to get by on their reserves of already created ideas instead of approaching each project with an idea truly created for that project.

When your way of making a living is based on being creative it can be hard to share ideas and watch others implement them, but it is essential to share your ideas, as the only alternative to sharing is to become stale.

There's nothing captivating about stale ideas.
